Sport

Sport is an integral part of every boy’s life at Wetherby. The character and self-discipline acquired on the games field will stay with the boys throughout their lives. Sport will assist in accepting victory modestly as well as defeat generously.

Boys at Wetherby participate in numerous different sports including, football, tag-rugby, cricket, hockey, tennis, swimming, gymnastics and dodgeball. All boys are involved in a swimming, gym and games lesson each week. Upon reaching upper school the boys have two games lessons a week. Extra-curricular sporting activities are also offered which provides an essential part of Wetherby’s curriculum. In addition to this, each term is filled with various sporting fixtures against other schools and all upper school boys will participate in at least one match per term.

Physical education at Wetherby is not only a vital subject within the national curriculum, but also integral in the development of a healthy and happy life. Developing the understanding, enthusiasm, skills and positive attitudes of Wetherby boys towards PE gives them a greater chance of continuing this into adult life. If pupils can be encouraged to take part in physical activity in a fun and enjoyable environment, then this will excite them to continue to be active throughout their school years and beyond.
