Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity. All pupils at Wetherby are encouraged to understand how science can be used, to explain the changes on earth, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes. Through engaging, inspiring lessons and workshops boys are taught essential aspects of the knowledge, processes and uses of science. Our aim is to enable children to be bold in their questioning, inspiring curiosity and enabling them to have the confidence to ask why and how. The children are always given the platform on which to re test their predictions.
Through our science curriculum pupils learn to ask scientific questions and develop their investigative and problem-solving skills. They also begin to appreciate the way science will affect their future on a personal, national and global level. Having the power to affect their futures inspires the children at Wetherby and through the addition of career driven trips and enrichment workshops the boys are given the platform to nurture these dreams.
Wetherby follows the most up to date curriculum, focussing on practical and investigative work. Through building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, pupils are encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. All boys are given a platform on which to observe and record changes during experiments and are encouraged to work as part of a group and independently.
Science allows our pupils to explain the unknown in ways they would never have imagined. At Wetherby we take this love and mystery of the unknown and channel it into effective educational experiences, where children are always enjoying their learning.
