Boys are encouraged to use technology as a tool to learn in all aspects of the curriculum. Pupils attend discrete computing lessons in Reception and Year 1 have thirty minutes per week in which they are equipped with the skills to use a computer effectively to learn. We have laptops in each Year 1, 2 and 3 class that are available for pupils to access as required during lessons. Year 2 and 3 boys also have forty-five minutes instruction which is a platform for E learning in the classroom.
Laptops and iPads are used effectively to learn across the curriculum and boys are encouraged to become independent learners. Every classroom is equipped with an interactive touch screen and teacher laptop.
Discrete computing lessons broadly follow the national curriculum objectives, however much more emphasis is placed upon learning in a curriculum context rather than learning discrete computing and digital literacy skills for the sake of it. This enables boys to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information. Lessons also focus on developing the skills necessary for children to be able to use information in a discriminating and effective way. ICT skills are a major factor in enabling children to be confident, creative and independent learners.
